A beautifully decorative vintage Murano-style art glass vase, hand-blown in clear glass and enlivened by bold red and white swirls suspended within the body.
The vase has a wonderfully fluid quality, with the coloured decoration appearing to move through the clear glass rather than simply sitting upon its surface. The combination of vivid red, opaque white and transparent glass creates considerable depth and visual interest, changing subtly as the piece is viewed from different angles or illuminated by natural light.
The design is strongly reminiscent of the expressive Murano glass tradition, particularly in its use of vivid colour, clear glass and free-flowing internal decoration. The piece is not attributed to a Murano maker, however, and both its precise date and manufacturer remain unknown.
Created using hot-worked blown glass techniques, the vase demonstrates the skill involved in introducing and manipulating coloured glass while the material remains molten. The resulting swirling pattern gives each section of the vase an individual, almost painterly appearance.
At 31 cm high and approximately 22 cm wide, this is a substantial piece of decorative studio glass with enough presence to be displayed independently. Its sculptural form works equally well left empty or used for a simple arrangement of flowers or foliage.
