Set of Four Antique Terracotta Rhubarb Forcers — Early to Mid‑20th Century
Short Description
A rare and impressively tall set of four antique terracotta rhubarb forcers, early to mid‑20th century, each with beautifully weathered surfaces and strong decorative presence.
Full Description
A particularly striking group of four antique terracotta rhubarb forcers dating from the early to mid‑20th century. Traditionally used in Victorian and later kitchen gardens to cover rhubarb crowns and encourage early, tender growth, these forcers are now highly sought after as sculptural pieces of English gardenalia.
Each forcer stands at least 60 cm tall (66 cm with lid) and displays wonderfully weathered terracotta surfaces developed through decades of outdoor use. Their colours vary subtly from piece to piece, with areas of moss, lichen, mineral deposits and gentle surface marking adding depth and authenticity. As a group, they have exceptional decorative impact — ideal along a garden wall, beside a greenhouse, or within a kitchen garden.
The forcers themselves are strong and solid, with no visible cracks or chips. There are three lids, two of which are significantly damaged, but the bodies remain in good antique condition overall.
A rare opportunity to acquire a complete and visually impressive set of traditional English garden forcers.

Styling Notes
Perfect grouped together along a garden wall, beside a greenhouse, or within a kitchen garden. Their sculptural forms and weathered terracotta surfaces pair beautifully with espaliered fruit trees, brickwork, gravel paths, and traditional potting‑shed aesthetics.
