1970s LC4-Style Chaise Longue — Pony Hide & Chrome
A striking 1970s reproduction of the iconic LC4 chaise longue, designed by Le Corbusier, Pierre Jeanneret and Charlotte Perriand. Upholstered in distinctive pony hide and supported by a substantial chrome-plated tubular steel frame, it combines sculptural presence with exceptional comfort.
Full Description
This superb 1970s reproduction captures the sculptural form and ergonomic qualities of one of the most recognisable designs in modernist furniture. The curved reclining seat rests within a tubular chrome-plated steel frame designed to follow the natural contours of the body, while the polished chrome contrasts beautifully with the richly marked pony hide.
The chaise has been fully restored, with the internal foam replaced and the leather support straps re-sewn. The elasticated wire springs have been retained for strength. The pony hide shows attractive age-related wear, adding character to its vintage appearance without detracting from its overall presentation.
Originally purchased in Italy and owned by the same collector for over fifty years, the chaise has an interesting history. As a reproduction rather than an original or Cassina-manufactured LC4, it offers the unmistakable aesthetic of this celebrated modernist design at a more accessible level.
The original LC4 chaise longue was designed in 1928 and exhibited at the Paris Salon d'Automne in 1929. Created by Le Corbusier, Pierre Jeanneret and Charlotte Perriand, its combination of tubular steel, ergonomic form and reclining seat established it as an enduring icon of twentieth-century modernist design.
A particularly impressive piece for lovers of modernist and mid-century furniture, with the combination of pony hide and polished chrome creating a strong focal point within both contemporary and eclectic interiors.
