Japanese Ebonised Plate Stand — Japan, Circa 1890
A charming Japanese ebonised plate stand dating from circa 1890, retaining its original painted finish and wonderfully aged surface. With a lead-weighted base providing stability, this unusual late 19th-century display stand is both decorative and practical.
Full Description
A beautifully atmospheric Japanese plate stand dating from circa 1890, constructed with an ebonised finish and retaining its original painted decoration and condition.
The stand has a wonderfully simple and elegant form, designed to display a decorative plate or other cherished object. Its lead-weighted base provides excellent stability, while the dark ebonised finish gives the piece a particularly sophisticated appearance.
The original paint has developed a lovely timeworn patina, with surface wear accumulated naturally over more than a century. This honest age and wear are an important part of the character of the piece and give it the distinctive appearance of an authentic antique display stand.
A particularly versatile decorative object, it could be used to display a favourite antique plate, ceramic, artwork or other small decorative piece. Its compact proportions make it equally suited to a mantelpiece, cabinet, shelf or tabletop display.
A lovely example of late 19th-century Japanese decorative furniture, combining simplicity, functionality and beautifully aged original decoration.

Styling Notes
A wonderfully versatile piece for displaying antique ceramics, Japanese plates and other decorative objects. Its dark ebonised finish works particularly well against lighter painted furniture, natural timber and neutral interiors. Perfect for a mantelpiece, library, study, cabinet or carefully styled shelf.
